At the Security Event 2025 in Birmingham, Salto unveiled its latest face recognition reader as part of the Access range. Compact, secure, and GDPR-compliant, this new product offers hands-free entry using advanced biometric authentication. Ideal for applications across MDUs, education, fitness, and high-security zones, the technology is designed to combine convenience with robust protection.
Facial recognition continues to grow as one of the most secure and seamless access credentials available. The new Salto reader uses a contactless process, allowing users to simply walk up and unlock a door without pulling out a card, key, or phone.
This is made possible by an advanced face-mapping algorithm that includes liveness detection. This ensures the system recognises a real human face rather than a photo or video spoof.
Facial recognition is the next leap forward in AI credentials. It adds convenience for users and significantly raises the security level, explains Josh from Salto.
The device includes a proprietary face algorithm developed by Salto’s software partner. Features include:
Users simply register their face via a mobile enrolment process and gain access without physical contact. This process helps prevent fraud and accelerates entry for approved users.
With privacy and data handling concerns top of mind, Salto addressed how the device stores and manages facial data.
This puts data responsibility clearly on the end customer and helps Salto customers remain compliant with GDPR and biometric consent regulations.
One of the standout features of the new Salto face reader is its compact form factor. Despite its small size, it offers full IP66 protection, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations.
Use cases include:
This is one of the most compact facial recognition readers I’ve seen. It fits right in without dominating the entrance," said the CIE team on site.

Turnstiles can verify students instantly, reducing queues and ensuring only authorised entry.
Prevents membership sharing by recognising registered faces only.
Provides access where traditional keys or QR codes could be stolen or shared.
