HDBaseT 5Play key elements explained

What is HDBaseT?

HDBaseT is the latest standard in professional AV signal distribution, allowing multiple signals to be simultaneously transmitted over standard Cat cable.

What is 5Play?

5Play represents the full capabilities of HDBAseT technology and refers to the 5 key signal elements which full HDBaseT is capable of transmitting over a single category 5, 6 or 7 cable.

The 5 key signal elements that make up full HDBaseT 5Play:

  1. Power over Cable PoH – Full HDBaseT will also transmit Power over cable, allowing power from the HDBaseT transmitter to be sent via the Cat cable to power receivers at the display end of the system, without the need for a local power supply.
  2. Control Signals including IR and RS232 – 5Play also transmits a number of key control protocols including infrared and RS-232, to allow for AV system-wide control of multiple sources and display devices.
  3. Ethernet – The third element of 5Play is standard 100BaseT Ethernet; ideal in smart TV applications requiring internet access directly to the screen.
  4. Digital Audio – HDBaseT supports transmission of all digital audio formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD and DTS master audio.
  5. Full HD and Ultra HD video – HDBaseT 5Play is capable of transmitting full uncompressed HD and UHD/4K video signals, including 3D signal support all without latency.

All five elements can be transmitted simultaeneously over standard Cat5e/6 Ethernet cable.
