CIE’s Easter Rescue following hospital raid

Patients will be able to hear an Easter service in hospital after CIE-Group stepped in to replace equipment stolen from the chapel at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

Nottingham-based CIE-Group, which specialise in professional audio-visual equipment, stepped in to save the day after reading about the chapel’s plight in the local press.
Equipment for broadcasting services to patients and allowing people with hearing difficulties to attend and listen to services was stolen at the weekend.
Due to the hospital’s insurance policy, the items cannot be claimed for because they have a collective value of less than £20,000.

But newspaper report came to the notice of CIE marketing director Chris Edwards, who has worked for the company for 16 years.
“One of our warehouse team spotted one of our products in the paper and dropped it on my desk and asked if we could help out,” he said.
“We’re replacing everything that has gone missing. It’s a local story and, being a Nottingham-based company and it being one of our amplifiers, we think its absolutely the right thing to do – especially with it being Easter.
“It’s one of the biggest times of the year for the chapel and we are going to fix it here and now.

“We’re trying to do the right thing locally.

“We spoke to the chaplain and he said it would be wonderful. I’m sure they will be very thankful. Hopefully, we can make their weekend.“

Jon Doar is the company’s commercial director and fitted the replacement equipment. He said: “We’re just trying to do our bit and be of assistance. It’s not a very nice thing when something like that happens.
“With it being Easter coming up, we felt it was an opportunity to do something nice and give the folks in hospital the opportunity to have an Easter service.”

Hospital chaplain the Rev Canon Julian Hemstock was delighted.
He said: “We have been heartened by such a reaction from many people wanting to help. Special thanks go to the staff of CIE-Group Bulwell for donating new audio equipment and providing their expertise to install and get us back on stream for Easter. It is actions like this that are so encouraging to all who try to make the world a better place. Thanks, everyone.“

Bertie Pinchera, chairman of the QMC League of Friends, said: “It’s very generous of them. It’s good news that a company is stepping in to help.”
